Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training — known as ASIST — will be held this July in Elko. The training is presented by the Nevada Office of Suicide Prevention in partnership with Zero Suicides Elko County and Nevada Health Centers, and is open to anyone in the community at no cost. Registration is required.
ASIST is a two-day intensive, interactive course designed to help participants recognize when someone may be at risk and learn how to intervene to prevent the immediate risk of suicide. It covers five learning areas: preparing, connecting, understanding, assisting, and networking — equipping participants to work with someone in crisis to develop a concrete safety plan. The training is appropriate for a wide range of participants, from healthcare professionals and educators to community volunteers and concerned neighbors.
