In 2013, Norma Elizagoyen (1923–2013) established the Sauveur & Julie Ellizagoyen Memorial Aviation Scholarship to honor the memory of her late husband, Sauveur (1930-2010), and daughter, Julie (1961–2011), who shared a love of flying. Both were licensed pilots.

Norma’s wish was that the scholarship might help other residents of Elko County who dreamed of becoming aviators to obtain a pilot’s license. Since its inception in 2013, a dozen men and women have been awarded the scholarship, which pays up to $7,500 toward the cost of earning a license.

Applications for the 2026 scholarship will be accepted through July 17, 2026, no later that 5 p.m. Detailed instructions may be found in the application.
